Alpine Twist Crochet Headband -FREE Pattern
Materials
4.0 mm crochet hook
scissors
tapestry needle
~90 yards (32g) DK weight yarn
(I used wool, but any fiber with stretch will do!)
Abbreviations
sc - single crochet
dc - double crochet
st - stitch
ch - chain
rep - repeat
sk - skip

Pattern Notes
This pattern follows U.S. crochet terms and is worked in rows
This pattern is intermediate level and uses ‘cross dc stitch’ and ‘alpine stitch’
Finished headband dimensions: 3.25" x 9.25" (8.25cm x 23.50cm)
“rep *” means to repeat all steps between the asterisks in that row
Headband Pattern!
Start with ch 91 (should be 18-20" long for adult size)
R1 In second ch from hook, dc in back bump across, ch 1, turn
R2 sc in first st, then sc across, ch 2, turn
R3 cross dc st across, ch 1, turn (see below for cross stitch instructions)
R4 sc in first st, then sc across, ch 2, turn
~alpine stitch start
R5 dc in second st, then dc across, ch 1, turn
R6 sc in first st, then sc across, ch 2, turn
R7 dc in second dc of previous row, then sk next stitch on sc row, dc, dc in next dc of previous row, rep * until last st, dc in last st, ch 1, turn
R8 sc in first st, then sc across, ch 2, turn
R9 dc in first st, dc in sc st above dc post, dc in dc between post and next post (the inset one), dc in st above next dc post, rep * until last st, dc in last st, ch 1, turn
~alpine stitch end
R10 sc in first st, then sc across, ch 2, turn
R11 dc in first st, then dc across
Fasten off and leave long tail for sewing
Sew ends together with long tail (see video tutorial for twist construction) and turn right side out!
Cross DC stitch instructions
after ch 2 and turn sk two st
dc in third st from ch
dc in second st from ch (like you’re going backwards - this should produce a crossed or “x” look)
Alpine stitch tip:
when working in the dc of the previous row, loosen your tension and pull up enough loop to account for the height of your current dc row
